What Is This Session About?
Through the Focused Conversation Technique, the course is designed to teach participants the art and science of asking questions and holding conversations using a structured approach. The method involves asking questions at four levels to guide the discussion:
-
Establishing facts and data by asking questions that appeal to the senses.
-
Exploring initial reactions to the data by asking questions that appeal to the heart.
-
Asking for critical thinking on the experience or issue by asking questions that appeal to the head.
-
Challenging the group to decide their relationship and response to the topic by asking questions that lead to future resolution and actions.
The course introduces the ToP Focused Conversation Method, which provides a structure for effective communication that is based on our natural thinking process. The facilitator directs the group's thinking towards decision-making using a sequence of specific questions that takes them through the four levels of awareness: observable, relational, interpretative, and decisional (ORID). ORID serves as a template for facilitating conversations to uncover current reality and tap into the collective wisdom of the group.
